Availability of pure gasoline


Regulations created by the Environmental Protection Agency to implement the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 call for an increase in ethanol gasoline production to 36 billion gallons by 2022. In the first year of the act, production was only 9 billion gallons. This has led to a surge in ethanol production.


If this trend continues, the availability of ethanol-free natural gas will continue to decline. By 2022, finding pure natural gas in the United States will be a daunting challenge.


The possible exception is if the political climate changes or they reduce the RFS mandate. Reducing the required annual production will create more room in the market for ethanol-free gas.
