Robotic cleaners are a fantastic tool to help keep your pool clean. However, like any tool or piece of equipment, they will need some maintenance and repair from time to time. There are many different types of robotic cleaners on the market that can cater to a variety of pool styles and sizes. Some models even have the ability to reach areas of the pool that suction and pressure cleaners cannot! However, just like any other equipment or appliance, they will need routine care and upkeep in order to continue functioning properly over time.
Some common issues include the unit not picking up debris, getting stuck on pool ladders and other obstacles, flipping over, or moving erratically around the pool floor. These can usually be easily fixed by readjusting the handle position, making sure the weight is evenly distributed, and checking the filter and motor for any issues.
First, make sure the floating power cord is firmly plugged into the transformer and then plugged into an outlet. If the unit is receiving power, but is still not working, there may be a problem with the wiring within the rubber casing of the transformer, which can cause shorted wires and stop the robot from moving. Check the manual for your specific model to find out how to disassemble the transformer, which will often have an indicator light to show when it is receiving power.
Brushes and wheels on robotic cleaners can also become worn over time, so it is important to regularly remove any debris from them in order to maintain optimal function. This is especially important for wheeled cleaners that have tracks that can get caught on anything from rocks to plant leaves. The same is true of the cord; make sure it is not tangled or damaged and that it is being wound onto the holder properly after each use.
Finally, the suction hose on most robotic cleaners can get blocked by debris and must be removed regularly in order to ensure that the machine is able to reach all parts of your pool. Holes in the hose can often be repaired with a simple patch kit, while leaks can be fixed with a new O-ring or a replacement hose section.
Keeping up with regular cleaning and maintenance will help your robotic cleaner last longer than expected. It is much less expensive to repair a robotic cleaner than it is to replace it, so be proactive about your maintenance and troubleshoot when it seems to not be working properly.
